Key Differences Between Purafil’s Media and Its Competitors
Purafil isn’t the only company that makes media to solve odor, corrosion, and other air quality problems, but they are often regarded as the best. In a competitive environment, what allows Purafil’s media to consistently outperform the rest?
This blog explores Purafil’s unique position in the air cleaning industry and illustrates the key differences between Purafil’s media and competitor media.
Let’s get started.
Purafil vs. Competitors: What Makes Purafil Stand Out?
Removal Capacity
Removal capacity refers to the amount of a specific contaminant that a type of media can remove, typically reported as a percentage by weight. Purafil media has a much higher gas capacity than competitors, meaning its removal capacity is higher, but if you only judged by the outside, you might not see why at first.
The difference is what’s inside
While on the outside a Purafil media pellet and a competitor pellet can look very similar, the inside tells a different story. It’s like looking at two cakes, both decorated beautifully, but upon slicing into them you discover that one is a fluffy angel food cake and the other is a rock.
Gas capacity needs room for air
Competitor media is too dense and hard to allow air to pass through. This is often because competitors purchase pre-rolled alumina balls and coat them in active ingredients. Only the outside coating can provide any gas removal.
Conversely, Purafil’s patented, baked-from-scratch, hand-rolled media contains large pores that provide superior removal capacity. In addition, our media contains many distribution traps which transform contaminants at a much higher rate than media that can only perform at a surface level.
Working Capacity
Removal capacity is important, but working capacity may be even more so. Whereas removal capacity is determined by testing against single contaminant gasses, working capacity refers to the total amount of contaminants removed by the media.
This matters because in almost all applications a broad range of contaminants are present—not just one. Purafil media reigns supreme in its ability to remove multiple contaminant types at the same time. Part of this is due to our versatile media offerings, which can be leveraged together (in separate filter banks) to provide comprehensive air contaminant removal.
Designed to deliver
Purafil’s media provides chemisorption and adsorption for maximum removal without reintroducing any harmful gas back into the air. To do this, the media must be meticulously designed. In our ISO certified lab, we control all aspects of our media’s design and production:
- Media shape
- Size distribution
- Moisture content
- Bulk density
- Crush strength
- Abrasion loss
- Impregnation level
- Removal capacity
Controlling these factors allows our media to provide predictable and repeatable performance across all applications and within any facility type we serve.
Beyond controlling for repeatable performance, we also control the entire development and production process. This involves:
- Sourcing the right ingredients
- Mixing ingredients properly
- Preparing them at the right temperature for the right amount of time
- Performing quality control to ensure all media are the appropriate shape and size
It is our mission and our responsibility to provide the highest quality media possible, and we take that responsibility seriously. When you use Purafil media, you can be sure you are receiving a rigorously tested product that will perform as advertised.
Lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
While initial costs are important, the total cost of ownership (TCO) is a critical metric for any air quality solution. Purafil’s media may have a slightly higher upfront cost, but its exceptional removal capabilities and durability lead to longer service life and less frequent replacements. This ultimately results in lower TCO over time, as clients save on replacement costs and enjoy improved efficiency in their air quality systems.
Never a Knock-Off
Our ISO 17025 certified lab painstakingly designs high-quality media that exceeds standards of excellence so that our clients can receive only the best solutions to their air quality problems.
We never copy others, but we are copied consistently
As with many knock-offs, the quality and consistency of competitor products is lower. They often use third parties to manufacture and are not in touch with the products they sell. Competitors may attempt to copy or modify our specifications, but skip the testing phase—often because they do not understand the importance of verifying parameters. Media from these types of competitors are not held to the same standards that Purafil insists upon for our products, resulting in a less reliable product than what Purafil provides.
Purafil Stands Above the Rest
Purafil is the developer, tester, manufacturer, and deliverer of every media type we sell. It is important to us to remain original and at the forefront of gas phase filtration innovation. The consistency of production and performance makes our media more reliable, efficient, and ultimately cost-effective than competitor media.
