Sincerely, Technical Services Department Purafil,Inc. | Media Physical Characteristics: Does Channeling or Compaction Occur in Purafil's Granular Media Deep Bed Systems? One of the main compromises in using sorption (adsorption or chemisorption) for the control of gaseous contaminants is between the objectives of efficient contaminant control and minimizing the resistance to airflow. The most efficient form a media could take is that of a powder, but it is impractical to blow air through a packed bed of powder. Using a larger-sized media granule can significantly reduce the pressure drop through the system, but at the risk of operating at a lower than acceptable removal efficiency. Many corrosion control, odor control, and toxic gas containment applications require the use of large amounts of dry-scrubbing media for optimum control of chemical contaminants. For these applications Purafil offers several types of deep-bed filtration systems. These include the Deep-Bed Scrubber (DBS) that employs media in two or more vertical beds and the Tub Scrubber (TS), Emergency Gas Scrubber (EGS), and Drum Scrubber (DS) that employ the media in a single horizontal bed[1]. All of these systems provide extremely high contaminant removal efficiency and media service life insuring optimum system performance. Deep bed systems with media depths greater than 12" (300 mm), allow for a larger media granule to reduce the pressure drop through the system and provide a media residence time long enough to totally contain the mass transfer (reaction) zone which assures essentially 100% contact efficiency and means that the media will provide 100% contaminant removal.
