Solving Data Center Corrosion

Data Center_Small_CroppedLast month's newsletter introduced RoHS and its "lead- free" requirements and how the implementation of these regulations is affecting electronic equipment reliability in industrial settings.  This month we will discuss some of the issues that have surfaced in IT and datacom applications due to RoHS compliance.

All of the water in a typical cloud weighs approximately 550 tons.  Storm clouds can weigh many, many times more.

Coca-cola has a pH level of 2.8, classifying it as a moderately strong acid.

Plasma, the 4th state of matter is a partially ionized gas where electrons are not associated with particular atoms or molecules.  During a lightning strike, the air around the bolt is charged into plasma which can reach temperatures approaching 54,000ºF.  The xenon and neon gas inside a plasma television are charged to very high temperatures (thousands of degrees), but give off relatively little heat due to the low mass of gas contained inside the screen.
