Dry-Scrubbing Odor Control System
Purafil's dry-scrubbing (or gas-phase) air filtration media are used in many wastewater odor control systems. The media used can range from Odorkol brand activated carbon to engineered media such as Odorcarb and Odoroxidant SP. These media remove odorous gases by both physical and chemical means, providing essentially odor-free air.
Re-engineering our deep-bed odor control systems was examined in an effort to reduce initial and ongoing maintenance costs. A design change was considered whereby increasing the face velocity of the system would reduce the overall size of the odor scrubber, thus reducing the system footprint and the installed cost. The contaminant mass transfer zone (MTZ) in the bed and the overall operational costs were also evaluated when the design parameter changes affected the face velocity. The MTZ describes that portion of the media bed in which active adsorption and/or chemisorption is occurring. The leading edge of the MTZ sees odorous gases at 100% of their inlet concentration, while the back edge of this zone is exposed to essentially no odorous contaminants. Operational costs to consider were energy expenses associated with powering the system and the price for replacement media. An investigation of the MTZ in dry-scrubbing media systems has been performed at an elevated velocity, which would allow for a reduction in the overall size of the scrubber. The impact on installed costs and operational costs were investigated as well.
A redesign of odor control scrubbers with an increased face velocity is a viable option for Purafil's deep bed scrubbers (DBSs). The capital equipment cost savings average ~22% and replacement media costs decreased by ~31 %. These and other results are presented here. | | | | About Purafil,Inc. For more than 40 years, Purafil Inc. has been a world leader in the development of gas-phase air filtration media and systems designed to eliminate and control gaseous contaminants. We were the first to propose standards for industrial facilities using electronic process controls. Today, these standards are used worldwide.
Purafil offers the widest variety of gas-phase air filtration media and award-winning systems for the control of any Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) challenge. Purafil provides engineered, clean air solutions in an array of markets including commercial, industrial, water wastewater, museums and cleanrooms. Purafil's dry-chemical air cleaning media removes specific gases and contaminants from high-volume facilities in order to control corrosion, improve process reliability and IAQ, as well as save money.
Purafil's state-of-the-art laboratory and research facility offers valuable customer services, such as media life analysis, air quality assessment, and circuit board failure evaluation. In addition to those valued process, Purafil also offers a variety of technical services to ensure clean air and customer satisfaction.

The Ancient Greeks had central heating, running water (in fountains and public baths), vending machines (which dispensed water), construction cranes, automatically opening doors (powered by steam engines) and tumbler locks. Close to 50% of the water used in a home originates from the bathroom. Water is the only substance that is found naturally on earth in three forms: liquid, gas, solid. | | | | | | | | Purafil,Inc. | 2654 Weaver Way | Doraville | GA | 30340 |
