Wastewater Odor Control Media

Complementary Media Life Analysis: Purafil’s laboratory analyzes samples of media from your air scrubber to determine the remaining life. A date for replacement can then be scheduled to ensure the protected space is not exposed to gas breakthrough or media is replaced prematurely.

Purafil ESD’s patented, odor-scrubbing media are the core of our systems. We engineer and manufacture our media from raw ingredients to ensure their superior removal capacity against hydrogen sulfide, mercaptans, aldehydes, organics, and many other odorous gases. Our granular media are UL Classified, non-toxic, non-hazardous, and landfill disposable. Most applications involving wastewater odor control typically use a two part media system which commonly includes Odorcarb™ Ultra (for removal of odorous hydrogen sulfide gas) and Odormix ™ SP (for removing a broad spectrum of odors, including mercaptans, amines, aldehydes, organics and sulfur dioxide). Purafil ESD combines the following engineered media in your Purafil ESD odor scrubber to ensure complete control of sewage odors:

Odorcarb™ Ultra Media – The First activated alumina-based media that removes 0.30 grams (g) of odorous hydrogen sulfide gas (H₂S) per cubic centimeter (cc) of media.

Odormix™ SP Media – Broad range odor removal used in final or "polishing" stage. 50:50 volume blend of Odoroxidant SP and Odorkol. This media demonstrates a higher working capacity for broad-spectrum oxidation of contaminants in actual field conditions, where multiple gas challenges are present. The Purafil SP Series has been specially engineered to contain more permanganate (the active ingredient) for increased removal capacity, allowing the media to remain more available for removal of target gases. Purafil ESD’s Odormix™ SP (patent-pending) Media offers broad spectrum removal of odorous gases related to sewerage treatment operations.

Odoroxidant™ SP Media – Powerful oxider for hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide, nitric oxide and formaldehyde. Demonstrates a higher working capacity for broadspectrum oxidation of contaminants in actual field conditions, where multiple gas challenges are present. Odoroxidant™ SP has been specially engineered to contain more permanganate (the active ingredient) for increased removal capacity, allowing the media to remain more available for removal of target gases. Odoroxidant™ SP Media demonstrates a high removal capacity for sewage gases, including hydrogen sulfide, aldehydes, sulfur dioxide and many organic compounds.

OdorKol™ Media - Ensures complete removal of hydrocarbons, allowing remaining media stages to remove other gases.   

ESD Triple Blend Media - removes the widest variety of odors and gases from municipal and wastewater applications. ESD Triple-Blend Odor Control Media contains a 50:25:25 blend, respectively of Odorcarb™ Ultra, Odoroxidant™ SP and Odorkol™ engineered dry-chemical media. This unique combination of ESD media formulations removes common gases found in municipal applications such as hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen dioxide, nitric oxide, sulfur dioxide, organic acids, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as well as lower molecular weight aldehydes and hydrocarbons.

Wastewater Odor Control Equipment - Airflows from 0 to 40,000 cfm

Purafil ESD engineered media scrubbers offer several advantages over the other options because our media are manufactured using special chemicals, or impregnants, that react with odorous gases and remove them from the airstream.  Known as chemisorption, this process converts odors to harmless salts. Once the gases are removed from the environment, they cannot re-enter the airstream. As a result, engineered media do not require special disposal precautions.  Although Odorcarb Ultra and Odorkol are the only Purafil ESD media not impregnated, these media will still operate on the same basis as mentioned above.

Purafil ESD engineered media perform well at all temperatures and levels of humidity, they UL Classified and remove a broader range of odors than other products on the market. Our media are also life testable. Through laboratory analysis, Purafil can predict when media must be replaced; this service prevents gas breakthrough and premature media disposal. ESD Purafil Vent Scrubber- Ideal for removal of odorous gases from municipal vent pipes with a 99.5+% gas removal efficiency. These inexpensive passive vent scrubbers are perfect for small vent applications and come standard with Purafil ESD’s Odormix™ SP media which is designed to remove a broad spectrum of odorous gases including mercaptans, hydrocarbons, hydrogen sulfide and general sewer odors.
